The diode laser sits between alexandrite and Nd:YAG in wavelength (around 810 nm), giving a good balance of melanin absorption and depth. It handles a wide range of skin tones (Fitzpatrick II–V) and coarse hair well, and many modern diode systems (e.g. the "in-motion"/cooling designs) are marketed as low-pain and can be used carefully on darker skin. It is the workhorse of most modern clinics.
