The fastest, most effective laser for light-to-olive skin — but not for dark skin.
The alexandrite fires a shorter 755 nm wavelength that is strongly absorbed by melanin. That makes it extremely effective and fast on light-to-medium skin with dark hair (Fitzpatrick I–III) — but that same strong melanin absorption makes it risky on darker or tanned skin, where it can cause burns and hyperpigmentation. Excellent tool, wrong tool for deep skin tones.
Strengths
- Very fast and effective on light/olive skin
- Great on fine and coarse dark hair
Limitations
- NOT safe for dark or tanned skin (IV–VI) — burn/pigmentation risk
- Caution near recent sun exposure

Is the Alexandrite laser safe for dark skin?
No. The Alexandrite (755 nm) is best for lighter skin (Fitzpatrick I–III). On dark or tanned skin it carries a higher risk of burns and hyperpigmentation — an Nd:YAG laser is the safer choice.
Does the Alexandrite hurt?
Comfort level: Moderate. Individual pain varies by area and settings; numbing cream and contact cooling make treatment much more comfortable.
